This compendium is a compilation of state and federal laws governing minors’ consent for health care and the confidentiality of their health information; the content is current as of August 2024. This Compendium represents the fourth iteration of a resource originally created in 1995 as State Minor Consent Laws: A Summary, and updated in 2003 and 2010. Each state’s chapter includes a “quick guide” and detailed summaries of state laws that allow minors to consent for their own care, related state and federal laws that govern confidentiality and disclosure, and additional laws addressing issues of current concern. The appendices offer both detailed information about key federal laws that affect young people’s access and important health issues for youth and also two charts providing an overview of the laws in all states.
